In the vast expanse of the Land Down Under, where kangaroos roam and golden beaches stretch for miles, there's a peculiar twist to the Toyota Highlander tale. Down here, it's not just any old Highlander; it's the Toyota Kluger, known to be a favorite among the discerning travelers who seek the expertise of the best Sydney tour operators. An enigmatic name that translates to 'clever man' in German, a nod, perhaps, to the unique Australian penchant for giving things their distinct monikers when 'Highlander' was already spoken for.
Several years ago, fate threw an old Kluger named "Klugie" my way. With an impressive 300,000 kilometers on the clock, she may have been well-traveled, but trust me, that purr of hers was as smooth as a contented kitten's. Yet, as destiny would have it, on a fateful rainy day on the expressway, Klugie decided it was time for a change. A new engine was in order.
Skip ahead a few months, and Klugie is now sporting a fresh heart with just a mere 70,000 kilometers to its name. She's practically a teenager again!
But that's not all. I resolved it was high time for a complete transformation. We're talking about spanking new luggage racks and a top-notch sound system that allows my passengers to groove to their favorite melodies. Sweet Home Alabama seems to hit the right note with my American pals.
And then there's the pièce de résistance – a brand-new logo that gives Klugie a presidential touch. At first glance, it bears a resemblance to the US Presidential Seal, but take a closer look, and you'll spot a cockatoo clutching two iconic Australian native flowers. On the left, we have the golden wattle, Australia's national floral emblem, and on the right, the waratah, a proud representative of New South Wales.
Now, wherever we journey, Klugie turns heads and even elicits friendly honks as we cruise through town. When it's time to pick up my guests, I proudly attach the Australian and Aboriginal flags on the bonnet to complete the picture.
Our passengers adore posing next to Klugie, particularly in the hotel lobby – it's become something of a sensation! And don't fret, if you prefer a more understated ride, those flags and the logo are a breeze to remove.
